TOTO ANGEL CENTRE was founded in 2013 and is now supporting 30 children both boys and girls between three and 12 years from a variety of tribes and backgrounds. Around 2/3 of the children come for daycare, the rest also sleeps at the center. They are given education, food and clothing. We also conduct parents evenings and community meetings to make sure we are closely in contact with the community members. Otherwise it would not be possible to help them. The community in which the centre is situated is characterized by a high prevalence of HIV, illness, poverty, gang related crime, illicit brew, alcohol and drug addiction and unwanted pregnancies. This situation leaves a large number of children in the area vulnerable, neglected and abandoned by their caregivers. As a result of this situation many children spend their days on the street and are exposed to various forms of sexual, physical and emotional abuse on a daily basis. These days, Toto Angel survives with irregular funding and donations. Through good networking the centre receives donations like writing utensils and clothing from the church and people in the local community. Also the families and friends of the board members are helping out to cover rent, salaries and medical bills. The children at Toto Angel Center are some of the lucky ones. Kenya has over one million orphans and vulnerable children. A small percentage of them live in children centers which are predominantly privately funded and operated – but the majority of these children are still languishing in poverty in slums and on the streets, or in the uncaring hands of guardians who cannot bear the additional responsibility.
EUTYCHUS ACADEMY RIRUTA In the Eutychus Academy library, we give priority to three (3) subjects that are taught daily and students need to do daily homework from the text books. At the moment, each class of 60 students have only five (5) copies each. Every time we get funds we buy a few more copies with the aim of raising the ratio of books to students to 2:1. The books are all authored by the Kenya Literature Bureau: Mathematics Book: 1, 2, 3, 4; English Book: 1, 2, 3, 4 and Kiswahili Book: 1, 2, 3, 4. The average price per book is $5.00 USD.
