AS A STORYTELLER + CRAFTSMAN BY TRADE, I've worked with children and adults within some of the world's largest and smallest organizations in the capacity of business development, mobile technology + UX/UI design consulting, mobile market research, coffeeshop owner, art gallery curator, theatre entrepreneur, creative consultant, performer, poet, producer, director, and new media artist.
Let's add Father to the list.
In 2004, I received an MA from New York University in Performance and Technology with an emphasis on Digital Storytelling and a BA in Theatre Philosophy & American Poetry from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
I’ve published several books through, FirstF15teen, which I co-founded with Jason Franzen; I’m the author of Petulance & Sloth; the editor of Less & More, Said & Done, and Less Said, More Done, all written & designed by Jason Franzen, edited by myself and published by First F15teen.
I’m the author & creator of Treehouse, a found email love affair told across five mobile apps released to the Apple App Store in 2009, which received recognition from the Johns Hopkins Guide to New Media as an example of a modern progressive narrative structure.
I’ve created, performed in, and/or lead expressive media + storytelling workshops locally and internationally in Australia, Italy, France, Spain, Iran, and Kenya. In 2006, I performed in and served as creative consultant for several performances under the leadership of Dr. Barbara Haum using the Abeline Network (Internet2) from NYC to Israel. And, I’m a founding member of The Tygre’s Heart Shakespeare Company in Portland, Oregon. Artistic Director: Jan Powell, billed as: “Ferociously good Shakespeare in an intimate setting.”
I’ve studied environmental theatre + directing theory w/Richard Schechner as well as Ellen Stewart of LaMaMa ETC, design w/Tom Vincent + Jason Franzen, digital audio w/Kevin Fitzgerald Burke of BurkesWorks, and the business + autonomy of art + creativity through the works of Prince Rogers Nelson of Paisley Park Records and Robert Fripp of Discipline Global Mobile and Robert Lepage of Ex Machina. I’m a member of The Long Now, founded by Brian Eno and Danny Hillis.
Based in Maplewood, NJ, I use storytelling, performance, digital media and craftwork to explore all the different ways a story can be told, and art could be sold.
As a creativity coach, I’ve transformed lives.
I live with my brilliant wife, dynamite kid, and little puppy dog in Maplewood, NJ where I make and do whatever I can to keep my work authentic.
